about

This is my 5th album, and 1st under the moniker "Angelpain". This new album shows a more abrasive, noisy, and droney, side of my music. There are no overdubs on this album. It was important to me to be able to create and play the entire sound live so I utilized a looping pedal to create walls in which my voice, guitar, and drum machine would bounce off and create the songs and sounds I was looking for.

Here’s a review from the Portland Phoenix:

"Stefan Pierce Henegar is an independent musician from Maine whose music captures the quiet of a dark night in the woods of that state. Henegar’s music is comprised of a series of contemplative albums that blend the line somewhere between experimental folk and indie rock. In A Dark Dark Room is his latest in a string of albums released since 2009, marking a departure from several earlier, more traditionally folk titles.
In A Dark Dark Room begins with a lot of ambient noise in the earlier tracks, eventually evolving into an eerie, static-filled rendition of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." Of the nine tracks, my favorite was undoubtedly "Ghost of John," inspired by the words of the children's book by Alvin Schwartz and Dirk Zimmer. A brilliant idea, in my opinion, because how could anyone not love a song this deliciously creepy:

"Have you seen the ghost of John? Long white bones with the skin all
gone…"

Although there's influence from drone and traditional folk, there is also an element of Spiritualism to Henegar’s music, quietly permeating each album from the background. The lingering sense is of music cultivated from one individual's self-edification, giving it a very personal feel. In A Dark Dark Room is one of those made-from-scratch albums that leaves the listener with an impression of having just received a letter addressed directly to them."
